Using Virtual PC as an Admin Tool

Post by stranf »

So I don't completely hijack a thread below, I thought I'd show a screenie of using virtual PC as an admin.

the link will take you to a download of my screenshot. You will notice that I am running the server, a client, and two virtual PCs with clients all on the same machine.

Granted, my machine is an i7, but it should work well on most 2 core PCs. You can tell by my CPU meter (4 of the threads not shown) that my i7 isn't even breathing but I was able to click from each client and make them show text at different locations around Britannia.

I figure a Core 2 Duo (or AMD equivelant) with 6GB of ram could run this easy. You could even get by with a 32 bit OS and 3GB of ram. With 6GB you have the luxury of dedicating each Virtual PC with 1GB of it's own ram and still have plenty left over for the server and the client running on the "real" PC. With the 3GB limit of a 32bit OS, you might need to give each VPC 256-512MB instead.

All of the text you see on screen was generated by me, as a test to show that lag was minimal and you could quickly transfer from one client to the other (the text didn't have time to vanish before I hit print screen).

Two screens is a must unless you can stomach the delay of minimizing and maximizing the client you want.

Obviously, I had everything pre-typed and all I had to do was hit enter (and in the case of the NPCs also select a target for the text) on each client. --You can't do this test without having things pre-typed unless you are a 200+ WPM typer!!
