I'm wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else:

I was editing the spawn regions script...but I never saved it, and when I looked back the lights had gone out. I got rid of the notepad without saving and restarted the server but it's still pretty dark here. The npc's are still around (I can see their names) and I can run around the map and all that...but I can't see.
I repointed the uox.ini to a different folder with the uox maps in them (I had made a copy of the maps and just put the in my uox folder called "easy maps" but I now have them going directly to the uo install... This didn't fix the problem though.
The really wierd part though is that if I go to 'go place 1 (jail) I can see myself in all my llama riding glory. I jumped all over the map but (like when I log in) I can see the place for a split second (and me without clothes) and then BAM - blackout.
No I haven't backed things up yet, although if I lose it all, I will survive...although starting over is not preferable.
Any ideas?
It got pretty dark in here
Also, check your client settings.
If you have "dark nights" checked, things will get black. If not, it will be dark but you can see everyone.
For my shard, I control light level in the outdoors manually and I require all my players to have Dark Night checked. It makes dungeon hopping much more fun.
We have a small shard, so it is easier to keep people honest. Without "dark nights" it's pointless to have a light spell or torch. Players will just crank their brightness up and be able to see loot in areas they shouldn't.
I remember OSI originally had the dungeons pitch black, but I guess they went away from that?

"There is no way to know if darknights is checked in the client though is there?"
Not that I am aware of. This is kind of sad really, as having dark nights "Unchecked" gives a HUGE advantage inside dark dungeons. We are running on an honor system and it works for my small 2-5 player games, but if you intend to run a free shard it'd be best to plan for "darknights" to NOT be checked....sadly.
Too bad you can't JS script a "force Dark Night's on" for dark areas.
