I'm really at a loss with this one. looked through the DFNs and some scripts, but for the life of me, I can't figure this out on my own, I think.
Can I make NPC vendors only sell really low quality items (wherever applicable?)
Vendor item quality
Let's take smithing for instance. If you create stuff yourself, it will often do lower damage and have lower durabiltiy. (..you have created a below average quality item... or something like that.)
"low quality" armor naturally has lower defense and durability, and if I remember correctly, tools had lower durability, too.
Something along these lines. The short time I played UO, NPC vendors would only sell the most useless trash, so basically, if you just succeeded in making the item, no matter how bad it was, you couldnt do worse than the npc vendor.
edit: now, thanks to xuri, we can use the rank system to actually allow for better quality items than the ones the vendors are selling! with the standard settings, an item with a maxrank of 10, perfectly crafted, is just as good as the ones the vendors are selling.
if you set an items maxrank to... 12 for instance, you get roughly 20% (or was it exactly 20%?) stronger items (if you manage to craft it perfectly). 15 would be 50%, 20 would be 100% better and so on and so forth. up to 255
