Now Nujel'm, now you don't!

Post by Mindless Automaton »

Is there any particular method I could use to wipe Nujel'm off the map?

Its really ugly having a tropical desert island real close to the icy island.

I'm not even sure if I like the icy island either, is there an easy way to thaw it into a regular one? :)

Thanks!

hhahahah, wiping off Nujlem....

www.ryandor.com is the map making forum, if there is a way to "export" and reverse-engineer the UO map into a UO-mapmaking tool such as Dragon, you could simply cut some ocean and paste it over Nujlem to wipe it off.

usine a color dab tool, you can change the colors of the ice island to make it a normal one.

It would be easy if you could reverse engineer the map, and I'm not sure there is a tool for that. It is an interesting thought though. Nujlem bugs me. I see why they added it in UO (they had a big spot of ocean with nothing there), but it dosen't really fit into UO lore. Occlo dosen't either, but it seems to "fit" britannia better. I think what bothers me about Nujlem is that it has tropical trees in one spot with sand, and then prickly Death Valley cactuses nearby.....

Well I found

http://www.aksdb.de/CentrED/

I set it up and I am now setting nujlem to elevation -5 water tiles :)

glub glub glub.. Davey Jones locker..

I'll hit Ryandor's site because I want to try pulling in some UO4 or 5 maps.. :)

Also, here's a site that lists a ton of tools where I found centred

Honey, did you leave the faucet running?

I could stand to let Occlo stay because it kind of looks like it might be where Blackthorne's castle/skull o' Mondain was..

I do miss riding down the whirlpool into Lock Lake though..

Just for some chatter here, I'll follow up on my ancient topic. I abandoned my effort at making an Ultima 5 map since I'll never finish it in my lifetime. :o I figured I could just edit the current map.

The CED server did a good job at removing Nujel'm. You just have to hunt down the people in the spawn.dfn and remove them. Also, there's all the little sparkles and plant life, which can just be wiped out with CED.

Another thing I did was wipe off Blackthorne's castle in Britain. The only issue I ran into is CED can't cover up certain water tiles. (Deep ocean I guess) So I have to turn the moat into a river and a few ponds. Not sure if I'm going to put anything back there.

Other items slowly going are:

Nuke Vesper or just get rid of some rivers/bridges. I'd like a more U4/5 Vesper myself.

Let's through in a Paws again. (best horses ever!)

Anything else?

Man, I'd like to see some screenies of your work.

I miss Paws. Missed it so much in fact, that I created one on my shard. Not as good as a real city, just a few custom walls, fields, and a couple of the vanilla home-deed's with vendors plopped in, but it did give it an "ultima" feel.

I also changed my login screen from the Monain's legacy junk to a bitmap of the Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar atari ST box cover.

Looks really cool, I'll have to post a screen of it. A bit stretched, but in my opinion it is the best "ultima" login screen for UO since the animated chest (wish I could get that back personally)

Well its not really that impressive. Its just like the regular UO map without Nujel'm & Blackthorne's castle so far.

An animated gif of the Ultima 4 title menu screen (where the guys are moving around) would be a cool login screen. Too bad we can't do that. :)

Just for something to post, let me run through the U5 I was working on.

First off, I needed a good map, so I googled for ultima 5 map and a good example was this one.

http://www.owo.com/archive/ftp/maps/u5/u5mapcmp.gif

It was actually pretty crisp looking, so I used it as a base.

Some of the problems I had was getting Dragon to work with the map after I tweaked it.
I also had issues getting Gimp to work with the colors I was supposed to be using for the various terrains. For example, GImp was not using the shallow/deep water colors even though I specified indexed 256 (I think, its been awhile) It always made the water the same.

Eventually (and through some harddrive crashes) I decided it was taking forever, so I'd just buy the map from a guy who already made it. THe problem with that was at the time, he didn't complete it and a year or 2 later when he did, he wouldn't give me a discounted upgrade even though I purchased it previously.

Anyways, I thought I would just work on the current map and just remove/add things I liked, but the entire main continent from britannia out to east always bothered me. The walk from Minoc to Vesper was pathetic. Shrine of Compassion was moved west. Other shrines moved around.. Entire desert gone. Lock Lake destroyed.. Whole underworld tossed aside.. The pirate base from U4. It all just makes me lose an eighth..

So I jump back to my old U5 map. But you run into problems like the cities were only 1 square on the overland map, so maybe you base the building layouts on U6. (of which I found a really killer map for)

Eventually I would hope to get something together for UOX4. :)

Thanks!
