as a new admin to my little uo server i want to know where uox3 keeps the character's stats and skills rating so that if i want to modify a stat for a character i don't have to login to use that 'set command. initially i was thinking iy must be a text file or a sql table however i've been looking for a few days and found nothing yet.
thanks for pointing me to the correct place.
thanks.
where does uox3 keep character keep stats and skills?

All of UOX3's objects (characters and dynamic objects) are stored inside the UOX3\shared\ folder, within one of the .wsc files present there. Which one depends on which region in the world the character was saved to.
As such it might not be easy to locate the characters manually in a text-editor. If you know their name, you could do a general windows search that searches through files looking for your specified keywords, that should narrow down which file you'd have to look at - then you'd have to open the file in a text-editor and ctrl+f to find the character in question. All of the character's skills and stats should be listed there.
Keep in mind that any changes you do to these files manually need to be done while the server isn't running - or your changes will be overwritten on the next worldsave.

thanks for the quik reply. i was it's hoping it's easier to find than having to login and searching for the toon, BUT i was wrong. text searching on an unknown file name for a mtch is not too fun.
now that you clear that up and it just break my sweet hope into pieces, i'm thinking of another method that might accomplish the same result. Within UOX3 could the GM target a player character by name and no matter how far the player is away from the gm? i look through the gm command so i know that gm can issue 'set str 125 then target the player character to give 125 strength to him/her. if the character name is given could the gm just make that toon a target with gm commands?

Hmmm that's not currently possible no. Might be possible to tweak the command-scripts to support it, but what would happen if you had two characters with the same name? (names are not unique in UO).
Better bet would be to use 'WHOLIST or 'WHOLIST OFF to get a list of online/offline players and then teleport directly to whoever you want to modify.
