world forge questions

Post by Natas »

I had a problem with items disapering when ever i walk away and come back... I read the fourms on that so I konw what causes the problem I just havnt found any help on how to keep it from doing that.

but anyway I downloaded world forge so I could permanetly put those items in the map but can't get world forge to work right.... I entered the three paths at the bottom but I'm not sure about the last path on the right. and when i try to push the freeze botton i get an error. I can't give u the error right now cuz I'm not at home. but just woundering if Xuri or someone can give me some details on step by step instructions so maybe I can get it to run right...

Thanks in advance...

WorldForge isn't really compatible with the new worldfile-format UOX3 uses, unfortunately.

I see two ways you can try to do this currently:

1) Try using punt's WorldEditor, which is able to read the current UOX3 worldfiles, and which in theory should allow you to freeze items from your worldfiles to the client. I believe it will do so with any items of type 255.

2) Download the UOX3 Worldfile Converter, and use it to convert your worldfiles to the old format (a single items.wsc file, and a single chars.wsc file), which WorldForge should be able to read properly. To use it, you need to first copy your worldfiles from the UOX3\SHARED folder into the WorldConverter folder, then click START -> RUN -> "#:\filepath\UOX3WorldConverter.exe 1" (or open a command prompt and run the worldconverter from there, if you know how). After it's done, you'll have an items.wsc file which you can point WorldForge to.

The problem comes if you want whatever items aren't frozen to the client to still be on your shard. Since the worldfileconverter hasn't been updated for quite a few years, it can now only convert from new to old worldfiles without too much trouble. Going the other way around is problematic, as you need to run the converted worldfiles through older versions of UOX3 to "fix" them bit by bit before they can be used with the latest version of UOX3.

Of course, that's not a problem if you start out with clean worldfiles after freezing.
