Missing Monsters...?

Post by Frozulot »

After browsing the available NPC's I see there are probably up to 50 monsters from Ultima Online missing...while using 'tweak and entering numbers into the body type I have found the missing monsters but they do not have a 0x???? number ID for them, so if I wanted to enable these monsters by adding to the current available creatures.dfn's how would I do that? For example the weird little goblin creatures from UO. It would be really nice to enable the missing monsters. How do I do it?

What creatures.dfn does is just add combat sounds and some special properties (such as defining whether or not they can walk on water or fly) to the body-ids listed in there. Adding anything to it won't give you any new monsters ingame. But to add any missing creature-ids to it is fairly straight-forward. First, take your decimal body-id (if the id has no 0x infront), and convert it to hex-id using Windows Calculator run in Scientific Mode (Click View -> Scientific, enter decimal number, click hex-button), then just copy & paste an existing section and change the body-value, base-sound, icon graphic and other flags.

The NPCs currently available in UOX3 are defined in the various .dfn files in the DFNDATA\NPC\ folder. If you want to add a new NPC, you can either create a new .dfn file (using notepad, for instance) in the NPC folder, or add to one of the existing files. Note that any custom additions you do to the existing files will be overwritten if you download any updates of UOX3! So having custom NPCs in seperate .dfn files will save you a lot of work. UOX3 will automatically read in any .dfn files it finds, so you don't have to do anything but create the file and fill it up with NPC definitions :)

To add a new NPC, copy the entire section of another NPC and paste it into notepad. Give the section header of the NPC (the header which is enclosed in square brackets, for instance [orc]) a unique name, like [billgates], then edit the various properties of the NPC to fit what you want, including the ID= tag, which will tell UOX3 which body-ID to use for the NPC. It accepts both hex-decimal IDs and decimal IDs, so if you have a body-id with no 0x infront of it, you can use it here. Or you can convert it to hex-id using Windows Calculator (start it by pressing START -> RUN -> calc.exe) in scientific mode.

Once you're done editing the new NPC to your liking, save the file as for instance customnpcs.dfn in UOX3\DFNDATA\NPC\. You can even create a subfolder for your custom NPC files if you want, and place them in there. Now either reload the DFN files through the UOX3 console (press * then ? for menu) or restart UOX3.

To add your new NPC ingame, use 'ADD NPC billgates (replace billgates with whatever section-header you used for your NPC.)

I would appreciate if you could let me know which monsters are missing so I can add them to the next release of UOX3, by the way. :)

The ones I've added already (for next release) are:
ophidian zealot, ophidian justicar, whipping vine, quagmire, bog thing, bogling, silver wolf, shadow wisp, evil mage, evil mage lord, giant black widow, energy vortex, shadow fiend, giant fire beetle, hiryu, chimera, cu sidhe, mondain's steed + all Champions
