Need some Help!
Hi I am new to the forum but an old UO player. I was one of the ole timers that played back starting in 1997 and played until the second world addon then I moved on. I would like to build my own UOX3 server here for me and my children to play on. I however cannot seem to get my ole original 1997 1.25version client to work. Since I have been out of it forever I have no idea what client I need to play.... Can someone direct me to where I can get a client to work with UOX3? Is it free? Thanks so much!!!!!!!
Hi!
I ran into the same boat. And now I play on a fun old-style server with my cousins. It's great fun.
Unfortunatly, your 1997 client won't work. I went to wallmart and found 7th age. That client works, but I had to patch a few times to get the Avatar and Dragon armor which is kind of worth the upgrade.
We play 5.0.1h, and 5.0.1i and have no issues. We have no destire to upgrade past that with potentials issue that can result with Kingdom Reborn.
Basically, if you can find 8th age in a computerstore bargain bin, it should contain all the patches that my cousins and I use, and you can just install and start right up. Hope that helps.
Oh, and UO is also a superior GM-moderated quest platform for small parties, just like it is a huge MMORPG engine. My cousins and I came from NWN (and some from NWN2) and find GMed quests to be more "natrual" and easier to mod/create than the NWN engine. If you are familiar with NWN, you will know that it's toolkit is very nice, but UO just offers much more.
Too bad EA can't see the power in a 5-12 player stand-alone game using that engine as I think there would be a huge market for those RPGers not interested in MMORPG enviroment.
