Freezing problem

Post by Sunabi »

Hi everyone :)

I downloaded UOX3 yesterday for the first time, and I'm having problems getting the game working properly. I'm not sure whether it's a client or server problem. I am using the experimental build (but the problem occurs in the normal version too), and I have the default world stuff and spawn file installed. My Ultima Online version is 6.0.1.10 - I think this might be a problem but I can't find any earlier versions anywhere, and I don't think I can "backpatch" it (this is the version from the UO website).

Anyway, the problem is after a player joins the game on any account, they can move normally for a couple of seconds but then freeze up and are unable to do anything else without relogging. There's no errors reported in UOX3. I've had it work for minutes before the problem occured on occasion, but now I can't replicate that. It seems to happen mostly when moving.

Anyone know what's going on? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Howdy!

Which version of UOX3 did you download, the official or the experimental build?

I had that problem as well a bit with a client version around that version with the experimental build.

Also what are you using to connect to your shard (Razor, ConnectUO, UOG, etc)?

I strongly suspect that the cause of your problems lie with the client version you're using. There have been some changes in the more recent UO client versions which causes incompability with UOX3. Stay in the 5.x.x range and you should be fine.

There's no way to directly downgrade your client, no. You can, however, abort the UO patcher when it reaches the client-version you want to use. This requires a re-install, however.

If you need the latest client version for official shards etc, you could try aborting the patching process around 5.0.8/5.0.9, make a backup of the client.exe, then continue patching up to the latest version. Whenever you want to use the client to log in to your UOX3 server, replace the patched-up version of client.exe with the backup of v5.0.8/5.0.9 (after backing up the other client.exe, of course). Vice versa when you go back to the official shards. This might work, though I give no guarantees. :P

Jediman: I'm using the experimental build, although I've tried the official as well. I suspect it's the client. I'm using Razor to connect.

Xuri: that's good advice but I can't "stop the patching process" - the version I have is at 6.0.1.10 straight out of the installer :(
