Ok afew years ago a decision was made reguarding uox3, whether to stay old version or go for the newer clients.
Decision to stay with the old catered only for the dwinding older nostalgists.
These days the fresh new hordes of gamers and future software devs with their 1Gb video cards want the 3D.
You want this community to thrive, you have to look forward.
Else all will be but a memory.

Getting the younger generation interested is the only way i can see uox3`s survival.
I`m sure we would like to see afew more teenage geniuses wanting to take up the handle.

I don't believe we really "decided" to stick with the old. Rather we didn't have the development resources to maintain compatibility with all of the changes that were happening in newer clients.

Hmm,.. people don't know you are here. And I knew of you because 11 years ago i had a p100 running linux as my network server hosting UO emulator and I knew what i was looking for.
I came here with the intention of putting a new server up 24/7 for me and my friends.
Anyway getting back to uox3, people have to find you. And to get this up and going we can make use of the good old search engine.
Need to make posts thats going to make hits with specific talent people , in the case of games young specific talented people.

yeah , thats how the porn sites do it.

What would it take (in your opinion) to get this project running?
How many c++ programmers and Java script writers would it take to get this game patched to current version?

As I don't know what changes have happened to the client since the versions UOX3 works with I would have no idea. But as always UOX3 really only *needs* 1 dedicated programmer. It could use 6 or so. :)

Ok let me help here abit, I think
uox3 needs to be pulled apart and put back together to accommadate the many changes that are needed to be incorperated.
Looking through the articles mention of packet size changes in the versions, hmm, I heard that is not correct. Something about item checking.Current coding doesn't support item checking, and packet shaping has been a bandaid fix in the past.
I`m no guru, but i see that other site over there that merged have some ready made lua files.
Evaluation may take years off the duration of a project such as this.

Keep in mind, when you say "uox3 needs to be pulled apart and put back together", that doing something like that would take an enormous amount of development resources - of which the supply is extremely limited around here these days.

If, however, you know a crack team of would-be dedicated programmers who're just rearing to have a go at bringing UOX3 up-to-speed with the latest clients...? =P
