i'm testing out my uox3 server that i just got it running.
i created a char using the admin account as follow:
str=500
dex=500
int=50
archery=1000
given it a normal bow and 300 arrows
it was using admin account so it was already default to be gm/admin
sent it going after a tough monster and found a dragon for practice. shooting it all it can.
to my surprise after several minutes and the drag is not dead so i checked the hp bar of the monster and it did not lower by a hair and only 80 arrow were left in the bag so it indicated over 200 arrows had been fired on that monster
i'm i doing something wrong on this high archer
high level archer shoot over 200 shots no damage is seen on

tactics helps some i retest the setting as:Xuri wrote:You need the Tactics skill to hit anything in combat

went back to shoot a dragon within 2 minutes. the drag is beaten. looks awesome but imposible in normal play because those 500 points in major skills are impossible to get by playing naturally without being gm 'set commands.

That's the problem with gamers in this day and age, they all expect instant gratification. Back in the old days we had to work for our fun. Uphill in snow up to our armpits. Wearing nothing but a barrel. While eating rocks for dinner (if we were lucky). Slaying a dragon was an achievement that only came for a select few after having battled rats and lizardmen and orcs for YEARS.
You can tweak the ratio at which each individual skill increases through UOX3\DFNDATA\SKILLS\skills.dfn, btw.

Are you using the full install of Stranf's worldfile?
Xuri is right, and if I recall correctly, my dragon entry in the DFN file is even more skewed than the typical UOX3 install.
Didn't make any sense for me, for one player to slay a dragon in melee combat.
A dragon should be tough enough to take on a city and wipe out a few grandmasters in the process.
