How do you build a world from scratch?

My question is, is it possible to completely erase everything in your world...trees, buildings, terrain, dungeons etc. and create a new one from scratch or are you stuck with the unpopulated world that everyone starts with? I would like to have full control over how my world looks like instead of just populating a ghost town.
Thanks,

It's possible, yes. But very time consuming. Creating a decent quality map can take you months - if you're extremely dedicated - and years if you're not
Tools for this includes WorldForge (from the
downloads-page),
Dragon (and it's support forums at
Ryandor.com
and UO Landscaper - which you'll find at
Orbsydia.com.

It's not that simple, I tried Dragon and WorldForge and neither of them can alter the Brittania map in any way shape or form other than causing UOX3 not to work. If you try and replace the map, everything will still look the same and you wont be able to move your GM and UOX3 will say your not in a valid world. Havent tried landscaper.

If you modify your map, you need to make sure both the UO client and the UOX3 server use the new versions of the map that you've made. The client will only display whichever map it reads from it's own installation folder, and UOX3 will only read whichever map is present in the DATAFOLDER specified in uox.ini.
If modifying...

If you are modifying your map (editing it, not creating it from scratch), you could use WorldMaker (wm.orbsydia.ca ) assuming you have a card that supports OpenGL with current (and I mean current) drivers.

How do you alter the client so that it reads the new map? I tried putting the files directly into UO gateway and although everything looked differant i still could not move, i used dragon to convert a .bmp (the .bmp uses the necessary color chart) and used dragonsp to freeze the statics and staidx...everything looks the way it should but movement is nearly impossible. How do i fix this?

also i do not see a uox.ini file in with my uox folders, but if you mean alter the configuration and path to the map files...i did that. The map I am trying to convert was made by Darkshard...the Thanimar 100% complete map...maybe there are bugs in this map design. Dragon seemed to convert it just fine and when i ran dragonsp it seemed to be fine, except it asked me if i wanted to remove the old statics, was i supposed to say yes? Other than that it seemed to freeze the statics and staidx .muls OK.

If there's not a UOX.INI file in your uox3 folder - where did you alter the configuration and path to the map files? There's a DATADIRECTORY filepath in that file, which has to point to a folder containing the edited map-files (as well as other .mul/idx files it needs to read).
You can check during UOX3 startup if it reads the map-files correctly. If it says [skipped] behind map0.mul, it's not reading the file correctly, or can't find it.

It just says UOX configuration settings about 4kb. If this is the uox.ini than i have changed the directory path to read from the files where my map0.mul and staidx.mul and statics.mul are kept...like this,
DATADIRECTORY=C:/Program FIles/RavenWorld/
THe name of my shard is 'Raven World' and the file where all of my copies of the UO files are kept there so that I always have back up files in the original EA Games Ultima Online folder. UOX3 loads everything fine it only skips map1.mul but there is not a map1.mul file. The only progress I have made since we last spoke is that I went to UO Gateway and saw that you could add files into it...it only had a login.cfg file already loaded, so I added the new map0.mul, staidx0.mul and staticso.mul there which did make the world look the way it was supposed to according to the new map...but still the problem remained with movement. I could only move S,E, or SE with no problems but could not move n,w, or nw. So I have no clue, maybe there is a bug in Darkshards Thanimur map.

OH and btw Xuri I really did find your shard set up tutorial very useful and helpful, without it I would never even have figured out how to get UOX3 to work. Great work. I just can't get your worldbuilder to work for some reson, that could easily be on my newb status lol.

Alright - if I'm understanding you correctly, you have added the new map-files to the UOGateway configuration of your shard (which in essence should work the same as copying the new map files to c:\program files\ultima online\ or wherever you've got it installed), and you have the new map files in c:\program files\ravenworld\ as well - but can't move when ingame?
What's the problem with WorldBuilder? Apart from it being horribly outdated, I mean..

As I posted in another thread, if you've got WorldBuilder installed already, try downloading this test-version:
http://www.xoduz.org/files/uox3/WorldBu ... review.rar (unrar to WB folder). Let me know what works and not.
