Has anyone actually watched a modern UO intro?

For everything not directly related to UOX3; Such as official UO, other emus, and everyday chatter about stuff. And whatnot.

Has anyone actually watched a modern UO intro?

Post by Maarc »

Uni's started back, hence why I'm not around as much. Xuri, yes, I'll certainly get to WB for you, I know it's a pain, and I'm sorry it's taking so long, the machine's finally up to snuff again.

But I'm taking Animation 3 this semester, and I know (I hope!) what I'll be doing for my assessment... a 30 - 60 sec fake Fantasy MMORPG trailer :) So I thought I'd watch the UO trailer as it is now, and it's obviously been updated since the first release (I'm seeing some U9 style art work in there, if not the out and out character model for the avatar).

But what do you guys think of it? I actually think it's fairly slow, as far as trailers go, not much action or anything at all, except for a small burst of stuff. And I don't know if it's changed with Samurai Empire or not. But it almost strikes me as corny, so serious almost.

Thoughts?

The UO Trailer has changed? I haven't noticed. Last I saw it, it had the same graphics as it has back when UO was released - fancy 3D avatar which incidentally did look quite like the avatar in U9, etc.

I kinda liked UO's trailer/"backstory"; It's the only MMORPG which actually gives a reason for why there are multiple servers/worlds =)

Well, it's different from what I remembered, at least, maybe it hasn't changed :) I think it's quite good too, that they're at least trying to provide a backstory and so on. But unfortunately, there's no ongoing game plot, and they've broken so much of the back history of Ultima anyway :) But the intro just seems really sluggish to me, or maybe I've just watched too many fast paced films recently.

It's certainly not a captivating experience, or at least wasn't the last time I watched it (years ago now). Though the game is also not entitled "Gone in 60 Seconds". Come to think of it, with the server uptime when they launched UO, maybe it SHOULD have been titled UO: Gone in 60 Seconds.... But I'm just rambling ;)

I do agree, however, that they did a good job of giving a reason for there being multiple worlds. Most games don't get you very "into the game" in the initial setup and world selection.

AC, however, had it nailed on an ongoing plot. Too bad I had to head off to college years back... I'd probably still be playing it :)

I do not think it has changed much. I believe they added text at one point and maybe cut some of it out… but I cannot remember for sure.

I loved that intro – it made my mind wander a long ways the first time I saw it, but then I was already drooling from the mere thought of UO anyway.
