Say what you want about him, but I enjoyed watching the way he foolishly put himself in potential harms way time after time, documenting it and commenting it as it happened
It's certainly tragic. To leave behind 2 young kids and a grieving wife would be very hard. And I'm sure his wife will be upset she was interstate at the time.
But the odds of him being struck that close to the heart by a stingray is so vanishingly small, and he was well trained (even if a personality).
I was of the "bound to happen" opinion until I heard he had 2 children. A tragedy to be sure, that they are now without a father.
Out of curiosity (mostly never knowing stringrays even had barbs on their tail) I did some research on it. It seems there have only been 30 such deaths worldwide in recent years, and that they can basically only kill a human under the same circumstances a typical knife wound would.
I can only wish the best for those he left behind, and say that I will miss his shows on TV.
