UO map editor, help

Post by stranf »

So I downloaded the WorldForge and 3dUO map editor to give them a try.

My goal is to create a new map from scratch, replacing the samuri Empire map (map 4?) And then link to it via a moongate from Britannia.

I read awhile back that Xuri was going to create his world once.

If so which map editor do you use?

Is is hard?

What tips should I know?

Usually with 3rd party editors it takes a lot of TIME to figure out how they work. If any of you have any tips that could save me time or show me what to watch for, that would be cool.

Well. I'm not really an example to follow, being an old-school worldbuilder doing every tile by hand with WorldForge 6.4. That takes ages, and burns you out faster than a wooden house on fire.

Hop on over to Ryandor's site, which is more or less dedicated to UO worldmaking - especially the forum. It's a hive of villa...I mean it's a real treasure chest of information on this topic.

Check out punt's various mapmaking tools while over there. With those you can do mapmaking the "easy" way, painting your map in photoshop and converting it to a real UO map and whatnot. :P

WorldForge - whether you use the version available here on uox3.org or punt's own version of the program (same name, same function, different tool - sort of) - is more suited for detail work afterwards.

Thanks, I visted that site. Everything just seems so complicated, what I wish is a nice .pdf file that show someone how to do this.

What would be nice is a tile painter/tool in the mold of the NWN toolkit, and then a static dropper just like NWN. I have yet to see a world-builder as simple and powerful as that one.

I may end up doing my world tile by tile since I'm not very good with photoshop, so it might be just as frusterating.

I'll hop on down and see if I can get myself started.
