MUL editors available?

For everything not directly related to UOX3; Such as official UO, other emus, and everyday chatter about stuff. And whatnot.

MUL editors available?

Post by stranf »

Anyone know where I can find some relatively simple MUL editors?

I had an idea of doing a loosly historical based RPG in the colonial area. Since UO features a lot of reniassance clothing and weaponry (cutlass, sabre, etc.) I figured all you would need to do is take the 3 crossbow types, remove the "bow" part, and with a few touchups it would look like an early style musket.

Granted, it wouldn't look perfect, but it would get "by". Use the black-pearl art instead of cross-bow bolts and rename it "ammunition" and you already have the fire-arms.

The 2-d client animation for firing a cross-bow would pass for a musket-shot if you could also change the sound effect in the mul file. I'm sure it is possible, since all sounds, animations, and art are located in Inside UO. The question is, is there a program that can edit and recompile the respective MULs?

Using Dragon to create a small world, I figure you could get a small test-server up relatively quick....the only thing you'd need to do is change the cross-bow art to a musket.

Just a thought. I'm enjoying the mideval/fantasy era UO as well, so I might not even try this project if it dosen't work.

You should be able to find a program to suit your needs somewhere on this awesome site. Click the "Download"-button and revel in the various tools you can find there =)

Thanks for the site!

I'm hoping it won't be too difficult, I just want to adjust the crossbow so it passes off as some kind of early attempt at a fire-arm and then change the sfx if possible.

I was talking to my cousin and we are running out of some ideas for quests, and figured having an alternate shard with a different spin would maybe give us ideas for our Britannian shard...if that makes sense?

Either way, more RPGs the better!

I tried a few of the editors. The ones that I did test out let me edit the tiles flags as well as the name. None of them actually let me export, edit, or import another graphic.

Maybe I don't have the right one.....(I don't understand most of the text on that page) :)

MulPatcher 9.7 should let you edit/add/remove stuff from various MUL-files, including item artwork. Not entirely sure how the process works though, been many years since I last attempted something similar myself.
