Open Spell Book problem

Post by Gandolf »

I have the latest version of UOX3 v0.98-3.7 and I have tried this issue with UO gateway 1.9.1266 and 1.9.1255, the UO Client was updated at the beginning of the week.
My character is a warrior but I ask wanted some skills in magic. I have magic book but it does not always open.
When I cast a spell the book closes. It I click on the book again, a message appears that states I must wait to perform..... If I move the book to a different spot in the back pack I could open it again. If I close the back pack and open it I with out moving the spell book it will allow me to open it.

Also the short cut that is in the option menu alt-b will not open the spellbook.

Any ideas?

That's definitely some degree of oddness.

When you're actively casting a spell, the magic skill is flagged as in use, so you can't use something else that would use the magic skill. The message that you get, is that the standard "Wait for a few secs to use it again" sort of message?

To my knowledge, the client has always closed the spellbook when you cast a spell out of it. But you shouldn't have to move the back to be able to reopen it, that does sound unusual.

The client doesn't technically close the spellbook when you cast from it. It simply places a Spellbook icon somewhere on the UO desktop. We'd need to verify how UO handles this situation, as we seem to be handling things correctly on our end.

It might be that unlike packs (which will pop open upon double-clicking the item if you have them "minimized") you have to double-click the actual icon, instead of the item.

As for the message, that's just because you tried a few too many times or a bit too fast to double-click it, and UOX was actually attempting to re-open it each time. (The server actually has no way of knowing if it's sitting open or not).
