Criminal Timers & NPC Healers

If I just understand the criminal system wrong, disregard this...
Anyway:
Criminals killed by guards don't seem to get resurrected by npc healers.
Or to put it differently: the criminal timer doesn't seem to run out when a player is killed by a guard.
If the offender is killed by the defender, all is well.

Odd that being killed by a guard should make any difference....

I set the criminal timer to 1 and attacked the healer with guards off. healer killed me and rezzed me right away. I could repeat that over and over.
Guards on, and when I get killed by one of the summoned guards the criminal timer doesn't stop, it seems. At least I don't get any "you are no longer a criminal" messages and the healer wont resurrect me even after half an hour.
(happened with the default criminal timers too, btw, in case this makes any difference)

I just had this happen to me after I was killed by a ratman.
What we were doing:
Friend and I are in a party, I put up flame fields here and there, and naturally, he walks through them from time to time, which flags me criminal everytime. Not sure whether that is intentional, but anyway.
I was killed by that ratman while I was criminal, and my timer wouldnt run out. Maybe its something like...
Be killed by the defender(s), criminal timer is alright. Be killed by somebody else... and you're screwed

Maybe.
