So I am -very- new to this, in fact everything I learned about UO shard emulation I learned over this past weekend, and today I made an account on here so that I can maybe learn some more. which I have, but I have one teencey problem. at least right now.

I created this shard to play UO with some friends of mine, and now that it's done I've been running around amin'ing on my own. (yay!) so basically what I want to know is why I can't log in to this server on another computer?

I use the ip 127.0.0.1 and a port other than 2593, er whatever that one is. and it works on my computer, and nearly works on another computer I have. do i need to use a different ip? or a different port? or what?

I created another account for my brother to use, and I tried to log in on his computer and it said "Could not connect to Ultima Online blahblahblah..." that kind of jazz.
Help?

I just want to open up a server (not necessarily on the internet) to play with like, 2 or 3 other computers. unfortunately I know nothing about networks and things (don't judge me), and need some serious guidance.

127.0.0.1 is another way of saying, "my IP address". So for example, your IP address might be 168.255.87.43, so you could theoretically set your UOX.ini (and Razor) to point to 168.255.87.43. Or for yourself only, you could use 127.0.0.1. If your brother uses another machine to try to connect, and references 127.0.0.1, it thinks it's referring to his machine's IP address, whatever that is.

It's like if your name is Fred Johnson and you tried to talk about your UOX server, you could say "Fred Johnson's UOX server" or you could say "my UOX server". But if your brother tried to connect to "my UOX server", that would imply his server. He needs to connect to "Fred Johnson's UOX server".

I'm sure you can Google how to find your IP address (with a wireless router and some internet connections, it could theoretically change every time you connect to the internet, unfortunately). Once you do that, you should use that number to enter into UOX.ini and your brother should enter that into his Razor or whatever he uses to connect to UO.

Now I've encountered the problem of when i put my ip address in my .ini file, and then save and run the UO client, I'll log in and it just crashes. it did this at first when I opened up the port, so I might just have to restart my computer and let it try again. maybe the server is just weak?

Yikes, beats me, sorry. I posted everything I know on the subject (and I'm only 80% sure I even got that right)

I believe the problem is this bleepingly bleep computer. so i'll have to transfer the files to a better one that will run properly, and hope for the best. thank you, though. that helped, truly
