I gave that a try but no luck. I even tried adding a 'EOF' at the bottom of the file in case it was trying to load more than was there, that didn't work either. This is so confusing. :S

This is my guess: I am using UO 6.0.5.x..... I believe that the spawn.dfn is creating NPC's that are trying to generate items on their persons that do not exist in my current version of UO. So I am patching right now to see if that fixes it. Should I go to version 7.0.8.x or higher??

I use the lastets client version with my server 7.24.5
but be warned anything patched past 7.23.0 will not let insideuo and uofiddle work any more.
so i say safest client would be 7.23.3 i think it is because you can still use insideuo and uofiddle.
untell my new project is done
that will shock the world of uo.

Hi all
I have just been reading and learning last few weeks, Dragon Slayer have you made some new client or something I can't wait to see? I will start posting more now in the future and get to know everyone, thanks

Not a new client its a client addon
basicly insideuo and uofiddle always have to be updated when the release new clients and it takes them months well I started ajs file that will be called insideuox3.
Features will include
All Item Ids EA/OSI has in game.
All Monster Ids.
All Sounds
All Mutli Ids
plus other new features i been working on.

This sounds very good, I am hoping to make a world for players using High Seas expansion things mainly, I also enjoy to make web sites and post news and things like this, I will be starting a new site soon and see you have a world also, if it wont be to much trouble maybe you can visit us and let me post your news and things with a RSS feed or similar.
Also I request of Xuri if there is some way I can connect to UOX3 news postings directly or will I have to manually post these?
Perhaps with my site I can generate some hype for the community as I will be directing many people from my other gaming site to there, I will post the link when I have it ready.
Thank you gents for all you do.

Should this work with 0.99.1?
I've unzipped it to my shard directory, overwriting dfndata/spawn/spawn.dfn.
Interestingly, if I intentionally add a duplicate spawn zone, I don't get a warning on the console (line 323 of fileio.cpp indicates one should be spit out) indicating that the file isn't being loaded at all.
Here's the output of my uox3 launch. Any thoughts?
EDIT: I just managed to launch this (and the custom worldfile) on a windows system successfully. This is from a custom compiled uox3 running on CentOS 5.6, and I've also run on Ubuntu 10.04 with the same issue. Is there something significantly different about the linux version that would prevent the spawn.dfn and custom worldfile(s) to fail?

In other news, I'm doing some work to make it much easier to stand up a new shard. I'll be posting the fruits of my labor here (in another thread) when I'm done.

I'm having similar issues as a guy before me, I dropped in spawn.dfn and UOX crashes on startup.
The server runs fine with the empty file, and it runs fine with regionspawn 1-8, when I added the ninth it crashes.
Yes I'm completely new to running a shard.
I'm using this client and its files for the server: http://www.atomicgamer.com/files/87497/ ... t-v7-0-7-1

Copying regionspawn 10 and renaming it 9 works, the server doesn't crash when I do that.

Hm that is pretty interesting. There does not appear to be anything particular about the current regionspawn #9 that should cause it to crash. The NPC from that spawnlist spawns fine when I do 'ADD NPC m_innkeeper, and I can buy stuff from him with vendor buy/sell etc.
I might have found a different crash with NPCs spawning (which seems to be random, and with clients below ~7.0.9 only, and I'm going to fix that, but I'm not sure if it's related to the specific issue you're having. Does it always crash on startup, or is it random? Like, if you try to start the server with the original 10 spawnregions (remove the rest), will it always crash on startup, or only some of the time?

It crashes every time with the original 10 from the spawn.dfn download.
I'm wondering if it's got to do with the client version that UOX uses files from?

Give me ~10-15 minutes and I'll upload an experimental build of UOX3 which I'd like you to try. There's a chance this is caused by the same bug that I found & fixed a short while ago.

Download the following version (you only need the exe from this folder, nothing else has changed, so just copy it over from the uncompressed folder to your actual UOX3 folder) and see if the crashes still occur, please:
https://www.uox3.org/files/all-in-one_0_99_2b-experimental.zip
Source-updates are also on CVS for anyone wanting those.
