Devoting some time to uox

Post by fraz »

Since I finally got spider monkey to build, I've decided to do some coding work with uox3. I'm sure you're all thrilled! (LOL),
I'm not too sure what I want to try and tackle, so it'll be random bits here and there at first.

I guess I will read through the bug posts and start from there..

Cool, from what I gather, the most posted and verified bugs, as well as missing functionality would be in combat, so I think I'll start there.

Ok, have some free time now, talked with Dragon Slayer about coordinating some of Shard emu and UOX3 projects together, not sure on the general feelings people have with something like this.. any input appreciated..

I will do some UOX3 testing again, I've looked around about the map problems, is there any plans to continue updating UOX3 to the UOP formats for newer clients? I'm not keen on the conversion method as a permanent solution..

If UOX3 has plans or a community to move forward, I am willing to devote alot of time and high skill level programming into it also.. possibly even some big changes if they are desired by the people here..

My choices are to update my 'Shard' project to use UOP files..,
or work with a UOX3 that already does and bring Shards benefits/features here..

Please give it to me straight, what say you all?

Even if noone likes my proposal, I will be happy to share things with UOX3 in the future.

Well I'm told Xuri is too busy irl to do work on the uop files, and the community seems not to interested in my proposal.. oh well.. I'll probably just end up posting small fixes and improvements here and there. Was worth a shot though..

Hey fraz, sorry about the laggy reply-time. I try to check in as often as I can, but it's mostly slow news days so sometimes I forget :P

It's not just that I'm too busy to work on updating UOX3's support for newer UOP files - I'm also pretty sure I lack the technical know-how to do it. It was only through luck and random code-hacking that I managed to get _some_ support for UOP files in, and even those hacks aren't really working well (you'll fall through second stories of buildings in many/all places, for instance). They are also very ugly hacks - basically there's twice the amount of code there needs to be to support both old and new clients, because I implemented old and new versions of a lot of stuff. -_-

As things currently stand, I only have enough spare time to do small stuff every now and then; I have no plans to start any large undertakings with UOX3 in the near future - though I won't try to stop anyone else who might want to! :)

In any case, any fixes and or improvements you would be inclined to share would be much appreciated, both by me and by the rest of the UOX3 community (that would be stranf ;P).

thanks xuri, I will definitely start with some fixes and go from there..,
I have been reluctant to get into UOP files, I'm sure its alot of work.

I suppose following the latest reports and requests is best option, so I'll work from there.

Thanks for your reply, didnt take too long, plus DS gave me an update the other day.
To be honest even a small community is preferable to no community :)
Perhaps with some work, we can relight the spark in a few folks and get a little traffic moving through here daily..

If anyone has any interest in helping me get these added please let me know.

Although I'm sure itd be nice to see.. it doesn't seem like anyone has an interest in developing this emu any longer,
I'm not prepared to be the sole programmer and I'm experiencing way too many difficulties running uox3 atm..

I'm just doing my best to kick up some interest in uo and emulating again, well besides the mindless hordes of runuo..

I was sincere with my original offers.. although I was looking for interest and group efforts, which seems non existent..

Good Luck to you all.. cya around.
