How do I enable Ocllo / Haven (Old Haven) / New Haven?

Post by Xuri »

Ocllo
The island and town of Ocllo has gone through a series of changes over the years, primarily to accommodate what is referred to as the "New Player Experience", which ended up using this location to teach beginner Ultima Online players the ins and outs of the game. The original town of Ocllo (which still exists on the Felucca facet) was a quiet, small and quaint place, perhaps a bit out of the way, with few places available for player housing due to the uneven terrain on the island.

How do I enable Ocllo for the Trammel facet on my shard?
The simplest way is to disable MAPDIFFSENABLED setting in UOX.INI, and restarting UOX3. This will prevent the server (and connected clients) from loading the map/static diff files that contain the changes made for Haven, and will instead show you Ocllo the same way it appears in the Felucca facet. This works in client versions up to at least 5.0.9b, but from 6.0.0 New Haven had been made a permanent part of map1.mul, so if you want "old Ocllo" (or old haven for that matter) in newer client versions than this, you'll need to either use versions of the map/statics files from older clients (and potentially convert them to newer file sizes/formats if required by the client), or manually edit the current files to copy over the older stuff.

Haven
Haven (called Old Haven now) was the first re-imagining of Ocllo into a "safe haven" for beginner ("young") Ultima Online players, where they could be introduced to and come to grips with the basic mechanics and gameplay in a relatively safe environment away from the dangers that lurk in the rest of Britannia, accompanied by other beginner players as well as special player volunteers known as "Companions", who could guide and assist them and help them with any questions they might have. Travel to/from the island was restricted, and neither magic spells nor boats could be used to go there. Haven made its appearance in Publish 5 (April ~27, 2000, client 2.0.0), as part of the Renaissance expansion release. Additional updates were done to Haven in Publish 13 (Aug 19, 2001) and Publish 15 (Jan 9, 2002, client ~3.0.7), in preparation of LBR expansion launch. This patch also allowed veteran/regular UO players access to some parts of the area.

How do I enable Haven (Old Haven) for the Trammel facet on my shard?
With client versions between 4.0.0 (lowest officially supported by UOX3) and up until at least 7.0.8.2 you can gain access to Old Haven on the Trammel facet by enabling the uox.ini setting MAPDIFFSENABLED, and making sure that both client and server are using the same version of the map files.

New Haven
A second iteration of Haven - henceforth referred to as New Haven - made significant changes to the layout of the island and the overall new player experience. A new town emerged west of the remains of Ocllo/Old Haven, and a more directed experience was introduced to guide beginner players in their first steps. New Haven was made available to players with the release of Publish 44 (April 30, 2007, client ~6.0.0.0).

How do I enable New Haven for the Trammel facet on my shard?
To enable New Haven, either use a client more recent than 7.0.8.2, where New Haven is a permanent and unchangeable fixture of the map, or use a client version between 6.0.0 and 7.0.8.2 with MAPDIFFSENABLED in uox.ini disabled.
