unreconized commands

Post by Toad »

I have uox version 0.98-2.7 and Have been able to get the game up and running but have not been able to get the commands to work. Instead of useing the ' like i was suppose to i used . to make myself a gm. Well now when I try to use any commands none of them work at all. It tells me that it is an unreconized command and does nothing. I found other people with problems identical to mine but no resolve. I have used Uox before but not since the first one was out and am excited to get this thing going so if someone has the answers hook it up thanks in advance.

Which commands have you tried using? Also, does UOX3 console show any errors when you attempt to use the commands?

None of the commands work. And I thought to look and see if the server would see any errors and it did not. I followed your how to guide when i set up my server and did everything that was on that list. so as far as i know i should be set up just like you. I was able to make myself a gm it lets me use that command. but all the others are unreconized.

Well.. Hm. Try a simple command, like 'TELE (or .TELE)

Note that if you get a line saying SAY when you try to use ' as command prefix, just type ' a second time, so it says:
SAY: 'TELE

Also try using the same commands without making yourself a GM, since your starting character is on the admin account it already has access to all commands by default.

While i was waiting for a response i was on going through the commands that are shown in the help file. Some of them work. i can see all the gms that are on and i can dye myself all sorts of colors which was intertaing during the wait. Have you heard of this problem before? What i don't get is why some work and some don't. I got the uox from this sight but it said that i was missing a file called msvcr71.dll so i went to another site and got uox from there and copied it onto the one I got from here. The result made the game work, but now i have this problem. Is there a way you have time to address me more directly? Your help is very appreciated thanks a ton!

Well you could always come talk to me on IRC.
irc.freenodes.org, channel #uox3 :)

I'm suspecting that you're using an outdated help file as basis for the commands... check either the Commands-page on this site, or the "Commandlist.html" in your UOX3/DOCS folder.

The syntax of many commands has changed since some of the other help files were written.

I tried what you told me and the commands in the files on this sight are the same as the ones in the folders that i have. some work and some don't. Is there something that you can send me that will fix this?

You could also try downloading msvcr71.dll from the following link, and place it in your WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/ folder:

http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-f ... ml?msvcr71

Ok.... Before I went and downloaded that file I looked to see if I all ready had it, since that was the problem when I first tried setting up a Uox server. I all ready have that file says I got it today as a matter of fact. So now what LOL. I have done all the things that this website has told me to do and so far it has been successful. This problem of mine doesn't really make sense, what do you think could be causeing this? Everything runs fine except I can't use all the commands. Do you think if I downloaded your Gm tool that would help. Or does that program only work with some editing, does it not replace the commands that Iam missing?

Hmmmm. Did you download the latest version from this site and try with that?

Also, have you run windows update lately? How up to date is your computer? (just checking for general issues)

I'm not entirely sure, but I'm hoping that it's an issue with non-updated windows, because if it's not, then I'm pretty much clueless :P

Well, crap. I have updated my windows and it still don't work. So i deleted uox and reinstalled it. Ran the Uogateway, and still. don't work. Have you updated the uox since yesterday? Because it was either then or the day before that I downloaded it.... Anyway, got any other ideas?
Oh yeah! When I start up the server it gives me a warning message says>>Warning No JS file mappings found in section skilluse_scripts. It displays it at the top of the window where it says processing ini settings and initalizing and creating class pointers... then it shows all the scrips its loading like script_list and command_scrip<which I would think would be the one I need. Magic_script and then the warning under neath those. Maybe that helps some how..LOL

AH HA!!! I found it!!! I don't have all the command scripts. Let alone the ones that the warning says Iam missing. After typing that last reply it made me think to look into the JS files for the command scripts that I have. I found all the commands that it will let me use but Iam missing alot of them. Know where I can get them?

Well at least you've gotten your computer a bit more up to date ;P heh... run www.lavasoft.de 's Ad-Aware while you're at it!

What it looks like with me at startup:

Code: Select all

Starting JavaScript Engine....
JavaScript engine startup complete.
-----------------------------------------------------
Processing INI Settings
Initializing and creating class pointers...
Loading JS Scripts
  o Loaded 101 scripts from section SCRIPT_LIST
  o Loaded 51 scripts from section COMMAND_SCRIPTS
  o Loaded 1 scripts from section MAGIC_SCRIPTS
  o Loaded 9 scripts from section SKILLUSE_SCRIPTS
Do you have Net 1.1 frameworks installed? Not sure if that's even needed, but..

.net framework is not required.

Actually the MSVC7.1 file shouldn't even be required, I wonder at what is causing the need for that....
