Sorry for the newbie question, I am about to attempt this for the first time.
I've read through the documentation, and it seems pretty straight forward. I want to set up a LAN server for some friends and I. What am I going to get/not get with the basic install?
We just want to run around in the game as it was initially set up, nothing special. See the land, kill some monsters, visit some dungeons, sell to some vendors, talk to some NPCs. Are there are any normal features (I see that tradeskills aren't working) that aren't working?
Thanks!

Quick question about running my own shard...

I think most of the skills should be working fine.
As for MSVCR71.DLL, it's the Visual C++ 2003 Runtime DLL, any application compiled with it is likely to use it. I would be surprised if you didn't have something that used it, if so, just find it on your system and put it in the same dir.
Alternatively, a search for msvcr71.dll through google brings up a lot of matches. That's a reasonable way of getting it, I think.

I did get it from here... I dunno.
I was reading a couple of other posts. I -do- have to populate the world on my own? Is this something that can be done in a batch or do I need to pick and choose where I want each individual creature?
Edit : Okay, I downloaded MSVCR71.DLL and now when I run UOX3 I get this far and then it crashes :
o------------------------
| UOX Server start up!
| Welcome to Ultima Offli
o------------------------
o------------------------
| Starting JavaScript Eng
| JavaScript engine start
o------------------------
Processing INI settings
and then it crashes on me. Did I do something wrong?

You can pick and choose where you want each spawn-area (either for a specific npc type or a group of npcs, through an "npclist", or you can place single specific NPCs at targeted locations.
Perhaps the msvcr71.dll problem comes from js32.dll, if that was compiled using VC++ 2003?

Xuri: do me a favor and make sure the js32.dll in the All-in-One is the latest from the CVS. I compiled that with VC6, and thus it should not require that file.
As for the crash, sounds like your directories in the uox.ini are not setup properly. Make sure you have changed the /muldata/ dir to point to your Ultima Online directory.

Alright, all-in-one updated with latest cvs-version of the js32.dll. Here's a direct link to it (the dll) for anyone interested. ;P
