Vendor troubles

Post by arez313 »

I d'l xuris wb. and it seems it doesn't have full functionality... some commands work and some don't... i use the add menu in uox3 itself to enter an innkeeper... though when i look at her wares i notice major price off sets... bread costing like 15 million something!!!!! how can i change prices of this and enter some new items for npcs to sell??? I'm new to uox3, and will prolly bug ya some bit... sorry for inconvience..
about xuris wb... I may just need to fool around with it some more... though i have noticed that the item modification tab (moveable and decay options in particular) don't work.. .it always tells me that it is an unrecognized command... any help with this or should i just stick to the ingame gui gor gm's????

Thankx
Chris

For the moment, I'd stick with the ingame gui/commands, since I haven't released an updated version of WB in quite some time, and the currently available version of it is now severely out of date.

As for absurd item prices on vendors... make sure you're using the latest UOX3 release (0.98.3-1), patch your client to the latest version, and give the vendors time to restock their wares before you attempt to buy anything from them. Alternatively do a 'RESTOCK ALL command, to restock all vendors to maximum.

If they still don't display properly, it's because of a known bug with vendors - which has been fixed for the next UOX3 version, which hasn't been released yet. The sourcecode is available on the sourceforge-CVS though, so if you have a C/C++ compiler, a little know-how and don't mind the risks of using non-release versions of UOX3, you can access the latest updates without waiting for the next UOX3 release.

Hm what command do you use to set the price of objects? And when you say the server likes to reboot, do you mean the computer itself, or just UOX3?

Xuri,
The computer itself reboots when i talk to the vendor... its fine when i am just adding creatures or doors and such.. even adding doors to the roof... (don't ask) though the vendor thing is pissing me off now... 4 days of this and i am about to give up...
I thought maybe it was how my pc was setup... but i reformatted today after work (11-15-05) and it does the same thing :(

so I'm left with vesper all rdy for populus and not adding anything until i try to see if any one can help... if u think building a hole new pc from scratch may do the trick let me know... ill go pull the parts outta inventory and build one... hehe

as for the set price command i am using 'set sellvalue <enter price here>
and i seen that i shouldn't set amounts until after i restock vendor due to another issue i seen... makes the vendor state that he has 500 of them to sell and then it lags for like 2 mins. then the server catches up

doesn't make sense though I'm trying to run the server on a dual 3 ghz p4 machine with 2 gig ram...
*shrug*

any hints of advice would be great...

thanx...

This is actually the first time in more than 7 years I've heard of anyone's computers restarting when talking to vendors in UOX3. :/ I can both set up and talk to vendors fine here on all three of my computers (One P4 running Win2k, one running Win XP Pro, and my laptop, also running XP Pro). Neither of them is dual-core though... hmmm....... *scratches beard*

I'm pretty certain it's caused by SOMETHING in your computer, but not sure what, exactly. Perhaps faulty RAM-chips, so you could try removing either one (if you have more than one, that is - if not, swap it with a different one!) and see if it still happens. Alternatively, swap out the rest of the computer part for part until you find a setup which works. :/

Somehow you've ended up with an erroneous item, and every time you walk near it, the error is spammed in the console. Only way I know of to remove it is to perform a 'WIPE around the affected area and hope you manage to catch the bad item inside your selected wipe-area.

You figured out what caused the reboot problem then? I'd be interested to hear what was wrong, in case someone else ever encounters the same issue :)

the failure comes from... simple human error i guess... it was a mutlitude of things... no software issue that i know of though i did set one server back so i can debug it more to see of the root cause...

but i found unbalanced cpu fan, a few loose connections here and there. and a very old bios version for one of the motherboards... other then that nothing else was swapped out or tried though i will (when time permits) perform a very indepth test on the other server... though as for now.. i await the next release of uox to help my vendor trouble!!!

(with work and the pc shop i don't have time to learn C/C++ again)

ill let ya know of anything else xuri

thanx for your help

With college wrapping up (on my last class, woohoo) it's been rather hectic around here, and thus not much accomplished on UOX3.

I am hoping to accomplish some over the thanksgiving holiday, but I won't make any promises. :)

If Xuri feels so inclined he can make a service release out of the latest CVS code in the meantime, that will at least fix the vendor and book issues (hopefully!).

Anyhow, glad to hear you figured out the problems you were having with the computer, and I can certainly understand being busy. :P
