Lighting: PC is blinded?

Post by stranf »

So the main PC I play with has a lighting level 4 or 5 steps below the other players in the game. I don't know why.

For example, one of my PCs at night time the screen is dim like it normally is.

My main PC, in the same area, is so black, you can NOT see anything unless you have a torch equipped and even then you just see the red glow.

I'm wondering if there was a spell or something placed on my PC that made his world darker, and the timer is now broke.

Any thoughts on how to fix it?

There will be a limited number of things that affect brightness. I think there is racial effects (some races have better vision), but apart from that, it's controlled by the day/night timer, as well as regional weather settings.

Two things I can suggest you check

1) Match brightness levels on the monitor. You'd be surprised how easy it is to spot :)

2) Configuration settings. The UO Client, I believe, has a setting for something like "Dark Nights". And I do know that when this is enabled, it goes a lot darker a lot quicker.

Also check client settings.

I remember OSI had an option called "Dark Nights" or something similar to that. It made everything VERY dark. It looked cool with colored lighting, but was impractical.

And while at it, you could also check the client options for "Dark Nights" - it will make your screen darker at night time.

Hahahah thanks guys.

I'll check it. So this setting would be for each individual PC?

The monitor isn't an issue, it's on the same moniter, in fact, it's PCs from the same account. :).

If it's an individual PC option, like maros are, then I could very well have it installed on my PC.

Thanks.

From the changelog of 3.7:
Fixed two bugs in doLight() where we were sending the wrong light level to players. (grimson)
Presumably this is the bug (or one of them) that was fixed.

No, at the time, my PC was running the Dark Nights only options. That's what did it. Dark nights with Colored lighting Checked will do that. Just dark nights will not.

So now I run the game with Dark Nights checked, and Colored lighting unchecked. This creates a very dark, yet still playable, field of view during night times.

But if my report fixed another bug....kudos to the dev team!

Oh, while I'm here (sorry I can't post this in another thread, my dialup is about to die)......

Night Sight dosen't seem to cast on 3.7. IN fact, you cast it, it dosen't do anything, says it's not implimented or something. Then when you try to use another skill, say tracking or anatomy, it says: "You can't do that while casting"
