Back up your UO clients before next patch

For everything not directly related to UOX3; Such as official UO, other emus, and everyday chatter about stuff. And whatnot.

Back up your UO clients before next patch

Post by Xuri »

It might be an idea to back up your UO clients before the next UO patch... From the Five on Friday-questions on stratics:
3D Client Update:
The patch that discontinues the 3D client has been rescheduled for Wednesday the 25th. (Incidently, this is why we generally try to avoid giving you dates too far in advance - they really do change, and change often.) That patch contains a lot of other backend changes to the way the 2D client works, and we felt that it required extra testing before we pushed it out worldwide. It just wouldn't do to accidentally make everyone's houses float fifteen feet in the air, or other such wackiness.

oooh, so they are going to change the backend of the 2d client as well?

Sounds like our encryption algorythm is done. :)

So the people who made UO gateway and UO rice, are they still active? We might need another team to figure out a way to de-crypt it.

Who knows, maybe they will change the packet structure altogether. That would be a waste of programming time, unless, of course, they want to destroy emulators. EA might want to do that.

Not necessarily a waste of programming time for them. They could certainly optimise the packets and such a bit better than they do. They'll have learnt a lot in the last 10 years :)

If the packets don't change, it's "just a case" of blitting out the calls to the encryption functions (as they do now), so it sends out clear text. Not as simple as it sounds, I know :)

If the packets do change ... well, I guess I better finish documenting what we know on the wiki. That way as people experiment, they can update there, and the knowledge can flow around.

I've patched the UOML client to the latest version (the one that disables the 3D client on the official servers), and it appears to be working like normal. Haven't noticed any changes yet. :P

Interesting, seems that Trammel got it's own map now (map1.mul). Also most of the files used by UOX3 have been updated.
