Bug... and I'm Arachniphobic!!!!

Post by Tanlith »

Hi guys! First - keep up the awsome work. Second - here's a brief background on me:

I was in the original UO Bata Test, and I screwed arounf with UOX at various times over the years so I kinda know my way around setting it up... though my mind is fuzzy on some details...

I spent the last couple hours looking on this forum and other forums for answers, but found none (Well... not true I found some, so I won't post those questions hehe!)

1) Housing issue. of all the things my PC has locked down only one chest has stayed (I used the "I wish to lock this down" on everything) and I have NO idea why - I've restarted the server and even went so far as to reboot my PC... still can't get any more items to "stay" (FYI, the chest that stayed, was the Second item I locked down)

2) I placed 2 vendors on my steps - gone... wash, rince repete.... gone... now I haven't tried placing them inside as I ran out of deeds... need to cheat my PC some more deeds with my GM to try it out again

3) I can't do anything with the colored ingots at all... although they DO get "used up" when I try to craft a forge for the house... which also doesn't work... the resources go away, but no deed appears. And a message saying the item doesn't exist shows up on the Server Screen

Here's my info:

UO Client: UO Gold V6.0.1.2 (Patch 64)
UOX Ver: Ultima Offline eXperiment 3 v0.98-3.7
UO Gateway: Not useing UO Gateway - Useing ConnectUO v0.2.3.2
Steps: Placed house, made 2 chests locked them down...
I then tried various other items... nothing else stays
except the SECOND chest I locked down
Other Notes: Thanks guys!

OK was playing around some more, and still have the same problems. here is the exact Error message that the server spits out whenever I try to make a house add-on

ERROR: CreateBaseScriptItem(): Bad script item 0x14ef (Item Not Found).
ERROR: cSkills::MakeItem() bad script item # 0x14ef, made by player 0x26EC

I assume by (Item Not Found) it means house add-ons are not yet implemented?

The devs will have to help you with the bugs, but I can get you a work-around fix.

As a GM use

'set decayable 0

on all of the items, this will prevent Uox3 from deleteing any items with that tag. I have the 'set command available to my PCs (since all of my PCs run GM quests), and this is how we get around. We have never locked down anything, so I can't verify if this is a bug or not. I do know that the setting the decayable to 0 will work in the meantime.

Enjoy Uox3!

A fix for bug #3 is already up on the CVS for the next UOX3 version. I suggest you download the experimental build, as it contains both the fix for colored ingots and for a whole lot of other issues. Note that to unpack the downloaded file you'll need to use 7-Zip or another tool that supports the 7z format.

If you could try out that version and report back on the status of the bugs you listed in this thread, that would be great.

Sweet. Thanks for the response... I'm downloading the experimental ver now... I'll post my findings as soon as I try it out.

I've been in IT for neigh on 20yrs, mainly as a Network Architect and Security Specialist... but I've done a fair amount of scripting in the past... as I get to know UOX better I'll likely take a more active role in its development if need be.

Cools - I can now use the colored ingots, but still no house add-ons. If you guys know which files contain the scripts for them, could you let me know and I'll poke around and see what I can learn...

I'll check on the house addons issues and check on items disappearing. Items randomly disappearing has been a problem in the past and it seems like when we resolve it, it pops up again when UO versions. I'll let you know what I get. Might take a few hours but I'll let you guys know.

This is probably not your problem, but it has been known to happen on Uox3.

When you have an area with tons of custom items, such as a house full of a lot of decorations, Uox3 will not be able to draw them all on screen, especially if you are an internet client (slower connection speed) and/or gating to the custom house.

The items won't be drawn, but they are still there. If you are on a fast connection, the 'refresh command will redraw most of them. The best fix is to walk about 10 tiles offscreen from the house and walk towards it slowly. The items will appear.

Like I said, this is probably not your issue, but as soon as you get a heavilly non-static itemed area you will notice this. Just refresh and it will come back.

The item-refresh issue has something to do with the direction you approach them in. Because of how UOX3 handles the "radius" in which the client starts seeing items, if you approach items from a certain angle they won't appear on your screen.

I'm sure giwo/Maarc/grimson can offer more input on that exact problem.

I'm not using it online, just on my LAN. And there's not much in the area, just the house, and 3 chests (plus a bunch of stuff inside the cheasts) -

Xuri is right that this is related to the direction you approach an object. It has been a bug in the past yet none of us can figure out a resolution. Gee, it would be nice if someone would sneak out he UO Official server source! I think that's what I'll start working on. see if I can fix that pesky bug once and for all.
