Regions.dfn: Dungeon =1

Post by stranf »

Uox3 version: 3.7l
Client :5.0i

The basic regions.dfn that ships with UOx3 contains enteries for dungeons. The following code is an example. My Uox3.ini is set to dungeonlight = 15.

For whatever reason, the dungeon regions continue to change lighting based on brightlight and darklight. The work around for this, is to have the GM froce brightlight and darklight to 15 when in a dungeon. This works, but has 2 ill effects: You have to wait 1 minute before the lighting updates, and "night sight" magic will not work.

It would be nice if the dungeon lighting can work.

Next thought: The following code has tags for gating and marking. I'm assuming if these equal to 1 they are allowed and 0 they are not allowed. Does this work? If so, if gate=0 and mark=0, and a gm uses the 'gate command, will he be able to do so?

Thanks.

Code: Select all

[REGION 25]
{
GUARDED=1
GUARDLIST=guard
GUARDOWNER=Lord British's Personal
NAME=Jail
MAGICDAMAGE=0
MARK=0
GATE=0
RECALL=0
DUNGEON=1
X1=5272
Y1=1160
X2=5310
Y2=1190
}

If dungeon = 1 and the player/npc is in that region, AND there's no weather system attached to said region, then it should be using the dungeon light value.

agreed. According to that DFN entry, I should have a dark area, correct?

I do not.

So the theory goes, from looking at the code, yup. It'll drag whatever the dungeonlight value is from the INI file.

Are you sure you're in that region? Not in a different one?

Yup.

If you have time, test it out yourself, these are the .dfn entries that shipped with Uox3.

In order to test it, I actually took the x and y values from the region.dfn and "set" my PC to those coordinates.

It seems that we ahve all the dungeons marked as "dungeon", and sicne we've been playing for a few years, we've never had a dungeon go "dark." THe dungeons have always changed brightness based on time of day. We've kind of over-looked this, but due to some recent plots in our quests, having the dungeons super-dark would be very nice.

Try the following:

1. Shut down UOX3.
2. Rename or delete the "regions.wsc" from your "shared" folder.
3. Start UOX3.

Then try it again.

The code for dungeon lighting does work. But if you used an older version of the regions.dfn before, there is a good chance that the region has been saved, without the dungeon tag set, into the regions.wsc. The values from the regions.wsc overwrite the ones from the regions.dfn.

I will test that. I'm nearly 100% sure this is the issue. My shared folder hasn't been changed (except from worldsaves) since I started using UOx3.

Thanks grimson.

Does this still count as a bug? Changes to regions.dfn apparently not getting saved to already existing regions.wsc files?
