Seeings how there isnt much going on around these forums I thought I might try to liven it up a little while I'm around. This thread is dedicated to any thought, idea, random babblings you might have but have no where to put them.

Alas yes, it is a bit too quiet right now..
Good initiative for activity though
I've been having a field-day deleting all the bogus-account registrations on the forum lately, there's an abundance of russian(?) bots crawling all over the place, making bogus accounts almost every day :/ Because of this I had to turn on the requirement for Admins to enable new accounts before they can be used, which is a pain in the ass.
Tried to install the phpbb-mod where you have to write some letters/numbers that appear onscreen in a picture when creating a new account, but it's not working for some reason I've been unable to figure out of.

What we should be doing, is figuring out ways of getting more developers attracted to the project. One of the existing devs could for instance post a "Coders' Introduction to UOX3" or something, which I would then become front-page news, which would then possibly also be mirrored on the various (they aren't all gone yet) UO emulation news-sites (shardwire/tanjiers/whatever).

While it's not exactly an "introduction" to UOX3, I think some of the docs I previously put up on OpenUO have some similarities to what you are thinking, Xu.

As for an introduction type document, that would take a bit of time to do (since our file formats and such are not very well standardized). I was hoping that with punts work we could simplify the learning curve of UOX3 coding, but since he's not been around either, it seems not much of anything is happening, at least on the development end.

That's a good start though, giwo
I wasn't really thinking (at that moment, but it's a good thing to include!) about the specific coding-styles/practices - but more of how we can "catch people's eye", getting them involved, etc.
For instance there's questions like these that need good answers...
"What do I do with my code-fixes/additions? Do I post them on these boards? Or do I send them somewhere? In that case, do you want my patches only, or the entire code sent your way? How do I get write-access to the CVS? Do we have any meetings(in say, IRC) to discuss stuff?"
And so on

Well, yes, I haven't been around, mainly due to surgery. But then, after that, I spent my time on getting another WorldForge update done, and furthering the valley C++ mul library (which WorldForge used).
But yes, interest is the key thing, and to feel like a project. When one starts on this, it is like making it a personal project. Which of course if fine, but then there is no need the forum. Everyone can make it their own copy.
So then, one has to consider the following, to get interest:
1. People are looking for team environment (or at least sharing of ideas). Otherwise, you are back to just download the code, work by yourself. Easier in many respects, you can make all the decisions, never have to compromise.
2. Why this code base over another project. New developers wont have the emotional ties, so what is the "selling points".
So, if one considered this like a product , that one wanted to reach a target audience, I think one has to consider those 2 points (at a minimum).
